Touchstone Background

The property that has become Touchstone Inn was acquired by the present owner in 1983 and has had extensive updating as far as the utilitarian aspect goes with every effort being made to retain the integrity of the original design elements and ambiance that makes Touchstone Inn one of the last visages of old Taos, circa 1800.  Taos Mountain is our back yard.

Touchstone Inn is many things to many people. The native peoples consider this place called Touchstone to be medicine land, and a place for transformation.  There is a magnetism one feels as soon as foot is set upon the property; hence the reason it is named Touchstone – a catalyst for touching one’s inner being.  The people who come here are supposed to be here, and those who don’t ‘get it’ are not supposed to be here.

At Touchstone Inn, we cater to couples as a romantic getaway and to groups and families as a retreat center. We offer rooms on a short term basis as well as long term cottage rentals.  Sheltered among tall trees along the Taos Pueblo lands, at river’s edge, Touchstone Inn offers the tranquility of intimate patios, cozy rooms with fireplaces, Jacuzzi tubs, and all rooms have refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. The serene atmosphere of Touchstone provides the perfect scene for a garden massage or wedding with outdoor arch and candelabras to enhance the chosen site of the ceremony. Guests and Residents enjoy exploring secret gardens,  and relaxing year-round in our garden setting.
